Day 17 Saturday October 22
Day 17, Saturday October 22, Monticello, Indiana
Beginning miles: 2,365 from Kennewick. Temperature; 32-35 at 7 a.m. Clear and cold. No wind.
I know I've been falling down on posting Big Journey log. Will try to catch up on it when I get to next stopping point, Clinton, Tennessee home of Lamar & Joan Palmer. I had some really interesting photographs in Peoria, IL yesterday. One of them was pure accident and it involved some other people also taking photographs. I couldn't have planned it any better and I suppose someone might suspect it was all a pose. A kind of set up.
Slept in Walmart Parking lot last night in Monticello (pop. 5,367) about 100 miles south of Chicago. Decided when I was going through Peoria, Illinois to make a change of plans and drive to South Bend, Indiana instead of continue on to Indianapolis, Indiana on way to Nashville.
Now on to South Bend and Notre Dame University, one of the most famous universities in America. And today they have a home football game scheduled with Southern California, one of their oldest and biggest rivalries. It gave me an idea on how to possibly sell some books. It is also where the film Rudy was filmed. Driving away from Peoria last night I heard this old Sinatra song from the 1950s, Young At Heart:
Fairy tales can come true, it can happen to you
If you're young at heart.
For it's hard, you will find, to be narrow of mind
If you're young at heart....
And if you should survive to 105,
Look at all you'll derive out of being alive!
And here is the best part, you have a head start
If you are among the very young at heart.
Well it made me smile and remember why we're alive. On to South Bend.
